Brooklyn Park Officers Shoot Armed Man Amid Baby Death Investigation, Police Say

A baby’s death is being investigated, and police say that cops shot an armed man overnight in Brooklyn Park. The incident occurred during the inquiry.

After receiving a 911 call about a 7-month-old newborn who was not breathing, officers were dispatched to a residence on Queens Gardens North, close to Noble and Prestwick parkways, just before 4 a.m., officers said.

The infant was sent to a nearby hospital quickly, but it was determined that they had passed away there.

According to the police, approximately forty-five minutes later, officers who were looking into the incident “encountered an adult male with a gun.” The cop fired a shot at the individual, who was taken to the hospital and is likely to survive his injuries.

The policemen allegedly used their body cameras to record video of the encounter, according to the police administration.

Currently, the inquiry is being led by the Minnesota State Patrol and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

WCCO had a conversation with the brother of the man who was shot, who indicated that he did not wish to be recognized. According to him, the man who was being shot was the father of the child.

During the shooting, he stated that he was present in the house and saw it happen.

“I was trying to grab [my brother],” he said to me. They never allowed him to practice aiming a rifle. I have never, ever pointed a gun at anyone.

It is stated by the man that his brother was so angry about his child that he had the pistol purely to perhaps use it on himself.

“I feel like [police] should’ve pretty much held him back, talked to him,” he expressed himself. “He had his back turned to the cop who shot him.”

The video from the body camera has not been able to be reviewed by CBSnews to verify what the incident was.

“I’m begging that cop on camera, ‘Please don’t shoot, please don’t shoot,'” the brother of the person who was hurt in the incident stated.

At some point during the night, he claims that the infant choked on milk by accident.

According to the family, the father of the child is currently in the hospital and is in critical condition.
