Police have charged a Dunn man with felony child abuse inflicting serious damage following the death of a three-year-old lad from a severe brain injury.
The Dunn Police Department was summoned to 400 Ponderosa Drive on Monday morning to help Dunn Emergency Services with an unconscious three-year-old child. Officers came and promptly started an inquiry by calling the Criminal Investigations Division.
Along with the mother of the child, Sierra Privette, a man on the scene, Micha Ezekiel Wynn, was arrested and sent to Dunn Police Department for interrogation. After being taken to a local hospital, the three-year-old lad was airlifted to a trauma center where he passed away.
Arrest warrants state the child suffered major brain damage leading to a brain hemorrhage. Warrants indicate Wynn, Privette’s boyfriend, was watching the lad at the time. DPD said that Dunn police investigators assisted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation searched the house where evidence was gathered.
Taken before a magistrate, Wynn was charged with felony child abuse causing major injuries. Under a $300,000 secured bond waiting for his initial appearance in Harnett County District Court, he is housed in the Harnett County Detention Center.
According to the police, other charges are pending and this is an active investigation.
“Along with the victim’s family, kindly remember all the first responders handling this incident in your thoughts and prayers. Although it is difficult to know why events like this occur in our community, Chief Cary A. Jackson said in a statement that justice is done for the innocent victim of violence in this instance.
