High-Speed Pursuit Through Several Ohio Counties Ends in Arrest of Florida Man

A vehicle pursuit spanning several central Ohio counties led to the apprehension of a man from Florida on Tuesday.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) reported that a chase started after an alert was issued for a stolen 2024 Toyota RAV4. The vehicle was last spotted on State Route 95 in Richland County. According to OSHP, the car had been pursued in multiple jurisdictions.

Shortly after the alert was issued, a trooper from the OSHP Mt. Gilead post spotted the RAV4 heading south on SR-95 in Knox County. The trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however, the RAV4 persisted in its course of driving, according to the OSHP. The pursuit was terminated by the trooper due to the dangerous driving and potential harm to the public when the RAV4 veered towards Mt. Vernon.

A helicopter from the OSHP joined the chase, locating the RAV4 as it traveled on Interstate 71 through Morrow County into Delaware and Franklin counties. While the helicopter monitored the car, troopers quietly trailed behind without using their sirens.

The OSHP reported that the RAV4 later left I-71 and headed onto State Route 315 southbound. Troopers attempted to deploy stop sticks near the Ackerman Road exit. Nevertheless, the RAV4 proceeded to travel south on SR-315, eventually taking the exit onto Interstate 670 West, and then returning to I-71 South.

The OSHP helicopter continued to monitor the RAV4 as it traveled on I-71 into Green County, while the troopers maintained a safe distance behind the vehicle. The RAV4 veered off the left side of the road in an attempt to avoid another set of stop sticks. Unfortunately, the driver lost control and swerved back into the southbound lanes, ultimately colliding with the back of a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado. The RAV4 veered off the right side of the road and came to a stop.
