On Friday afternoon, a minivan collided with a nail salon located on Long Island, New York, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and the injuries of nine more.
Shortly before 5 p.m., the vehicle collided with Hawaii Nail & Spa, which is located on Grand Boulevard in Deer Park.
According to a witness who spoke with NBC New York, the van drove through the front of the establishment and came dangerously close to exiting via the opposite side of the salon.
According to Lieutenant Kevin Heissenbuttel, every single person who was murdered or injured was present inside the salon at the time of the incident. According to him, several individuals were unable to escape the salon and needed to be rescued by emergency personnel.
NBC New York claimed that a witness stated that the car had been racing through a parking lot across the street before the collision and that it appeared to be in a hurry. Other witnesses stated that the van was attempting to maneuver past another vehicle when it slammed into the building. It was stated by NBC New York that the vehicle was observed tearing through a parking lot that was located across the street. According to the station’s report, a witness stated that the vehicle was attempting to pass another vehicle when it drove into the structure.
The storefront was shown to have a gaping hole in the photographs taken at the site. According to a report by the Associated Press, a witness stated that he heard a car speeding up immediately followed by a “shattering” boom.
He remarked, “It was a sound that I had never heard at any other time.”
The driver of the vehicle was one among the people who sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital.
The chief of the Deer Park Fire Department stated that it was unclear what caused the vehicle to crash into the shop after it had already occurred as per NBCNEWS.
About 150 emergency medical services personnel and firefighters responded to the location.
